Students to Receive Character Education

Non-Profit hosts the Sounds of Knowledge Make Some Noise Tour

MOSS POINT – Students attending in the Moss Point and Washington County, Alabama school districts will receive achievement motivation this month through the Sounds of Knowledge entertainment-education program, sponsored by the Moss Point Visionary Circle.

SOK is a leading provider of Character Education and Youth Assembly programs encouraging young minds to make good choices through entertainment, according to Darlene Carter, president/CEO of MPVC. She said the goals are to raise student achievement, instill integrity in young people, and improve school culture and pro-social behavior.

"SOK uses the arts to deliver a high impact message to students in a way they can readily receive. The program breaks down the barriers our young people put up by meeting them on their level," Carter said. "Performance groups earn the right to be heard by the student body as they bring music, dance and comedy to school. Once a common rapport is established, performers speak 'real talk' to students about the importance of developing civic virtue and moral character."

SOK will tour Moss Point schools Nov. 8 and 9, and will be at McIntosh High School in Alabama on Nov. 10.

The program culminates with a youth talent search to find the next Idol, where winners get the opportunity to participate as performers in the SOK School Tour.

The Moss Point Idol competition is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Moss Point High School Auditorium. The McIntosh High School Idol is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium.

For ticket information contact the school or Darlene Carter at 404-207-2105.

The Moss Point Visionary Circle is a 501c3 non-profit community service organization dedicated to the Economic Development and Revitalization of the Gulf Coast region post Hurricane Katrina and BP Oil Spill. Information on programs and services at www.MossPointVisionary.com
