Support Sought for Back-to-School Rally

Approximately 1,500 students, parents and residents
enjoyed Moss Point School District's Back-to-School
Rally last year. School officials are expecting an even
larger crowd for this year's rally Aug. 14 at Dantzler

MOSS POINT -- Fun, food, fellowship, and a wealth of information are on the menu for Moss Point School District’s 6th Annual Back-to-School Rally.

The event is set for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 14 at Dantzler Memorial Stadium.

School district officials say last year’s rally was the biggest and best ever with more than 1,500 people in attendance. The rally’s format was expanded in 2008 to include the traditional Meet the Team to introduce high school athletic teams.

“We are so excited to keep this new tradition of having our Meet the Team event coincide with the Back-to-School Rally,” said athletic director Lewis Sims. “It was a huge success last year, and it is going to get better and better.

"Community support and pride is so important for our students. This event is the perfect opportunity for the entire community to come together,” said Sims.

The district is asking for support from local businesses, civic groups, and other organizations to help make the event a success.

Myya Robinson, director of communications, says the district solely relies on donations for the rally.

“This event is free to the community,” said Robinson. “We offer food, games, and door prizes, but this is only possible through donations. We are especially appreciative for the support we’ve received in the past and hope to get even more groups to be a part of this great event.”

District administrators say the rally is a great way to get students and the entire community excited about the new school year. Another highlight is the booths from community organizations and colleges with valuable information to share with students and parents.

Businesses or organizations interested in making a donation, volunteering and/or booth registration should contact Myya Robinson or Grenita Capilla at (228) 474-3399.
